Because of our poor oral-health habits, the CDHA estimates at least half of us have gingivitis, an inflammation of the gums caused by the buildup of dental plaque. Left untreated, gingivitis can develop into a more serious condition called periodontal disease...
"More people will lose their teeth because of periodontal disease than because of decay. Periodontal disease has been linked to heart disease, because they're finding the plaque in your mouth is very similar to the plaque that can be found in your heart."
